How to use the donut maker

- Wipe all cooking surfaces with a clean cloth before use
- On first usage the non-stick plates may emit a slight odour this is normal and will soon disappear
- Lightly oil the donut moulds in the base and lid of the appliance
- Plug the appliance into the mains
- The red light will illuminate until the optimum cooking temperature is attained, when the light will go out.
- Carefully pour the prepared batter (see recipe list) into the moulds in the base of the donut maker, ensuring none is spilled over the edges, as this will affect the shape of the finished donuts.
- Close the lid and leave for about 3 minutes, then lift the lid to see if the donuts are golden brown, if not lower the lid and continue cooking and checking at 30 second intervals (cooking times will vary slightly dependent on ingredients)
- Once the donuts have a golden brown appearance carefully remove from the moulds and switch off or continue cooking a second batch as above.

Trouble-shooting hints:


General Care:

- The donut maker can be cleaned by wiping with a clean, soft, damp cloth always disconnect from the Mains and allow to cool down sufficiently before cleaning (however the plates are easiest to clean before they go completely cold)
Avoid the use of metallic tools or metal abrasive cleaners as this will scratch the non-stick-plates

Donut maker - Recipes


TRADITIONAL RECIPE

50g. (2 ozs) Plain Flour
2 X 5ml (2 X tsp) spoons Caster Sugar
1 egg
25g. (1oz) Butter (melted)
½ X 5ml (1/2 tsp) spoon easy blend dried yeast
2 X 15ml (tbsps) spoons warm milk
Pinch of salt

Method;


Mix together, flour sugar salt and yeast
Beat in egg and milk until smooth
Beat in melted butter
Cover with a damp cloth and leave for 20 mins to allow yeast to prove (mixture should double in volume)
Alternatively prove the batter in a microwave for 1 ½ Mins on defrost setting
Preheat the donut maker, pour the batter into the moulds, close the lid and cook for approximately 3 minutes then check.
When golden brown remove and toss in sugar or a coating of your choice

Whilst the traditional recipe is recommended for this appliance other basic batter mixes (including ready made varieties) can be used easily and successfully.
The following suggestions will give your donuts an endless variety of tastes


Fillings, coatings and dips suitable for the traditional batter mix:

Fillings: (add to the batter and mix in well before cooking)

- JAM (any variety)
- CHOCOLATE CHIPS
- DRIED FRUIT (sultanas, raisins, currants, chopped apricots, dates, pineapple glace cherries etc)
- FRESH FRUITS (mashed banana, grated apple, mashed strawberries, raspberries or other berries, finely chopped peaches, cherries, apricots etc.
- CITRUS FRUIT (add finely grated rind of oranges, lemons, grapefruit, lime etc plus 15ml (1 X tbspn) of juice

Coatings;

- Toss the donuts in sugar or cinnamon for a classic coating or allow to cool and coat with melted chocolate, caramel, icing plus chocolate strands hundreds and thousands etc

Dips:

- Use sugar, cinnamon, syrup, chocolate strands etc for an exciting range of dips to complement your donuts
